Sarawak DCM tests positive for Covid-19, category 3

KUCHING: Sarawak Deputy Chief Minister Tan Sri James Masing has been admitted to the Intensive Care Unit of the Sarawak General Hospital (SGH) after testing positive for Covid-19 yesterday.

He gave an update on his health last night via his Facebook page saying that he had some symptoms, such as fever, cough, loss of appetite and water in his lungs.

He said he is currently a Category Three patient. However, his condition is stable.

"As I lay on my ICU hospital bed in SGH, Kuching, trying to recover from Covid-19 attack, I thought that after two full doses of the vaccine, I would be safe from Covid-19 attack. But I am not safe! I just hope the severity will not be there," he wrote on his Facebook page.

Masing had completed two doses of his Covid-19 vaccine in March.

The deputy chief minister had lost his younger brother Jantai Masing, 68, to Covid-19 at the Kapit Hospital on May 31, just a day before the Dayaks in the state ushered in the Gawai celebration.

According to him, his late brother would have a better chance of surviving Covid-19 if he had been given the vaccine as Jantai's son Kudi, who nursed his father when he was infected, had survived because he had already been vaccinated.
