Congregational prayers allowed in full capacity at Federal Territory mosques, surau from tomorrow

KUALA LUMPUR: Effective tomorrow, mosques and surau in Kuala Lumpur, Putrajaya and Labuan will allow congregants to perform daily and Friday prayers according to premises capacity with physical distancing of 1.5m.

Federal Territories Islamic Religious Department (Jawi) director Datuk Mohd Ajib Ismail said the new guidelines were adopted with consent from the Yang di-Pertuan Agong Al-Sultan Abdullah Ri'ayatuddin Al-Mustafa Billah Shah and in accordance with the transition of phase under the National Recovery Plan.

He said all mosques and surau were also allowed to carry out programmes and activities such as Maghrib kuliah (talks), tazkirah before Friday prayers, recitation of Quran and Yaasin, and supplications according to the set standard operating procedures.

"It is hoped that all Muslims particularly in the Federal Territories continue to adhere to the SOP and take the opportunity to attend prayers and programmes at mosques and surau, while praying that the Covid-19 ends soon," he said in a statement. – Bernama
