Sabah on track to flatten Covid-19 curve

KOTA KINABALU: Sabah is on track towards flattening the Covid-19 curve as the state continued to record a decline in daily cases.

State Covid-19 spokesman Datuk Seri Masidi Manjun said Sabah recorded 677 infections today, compared to 767 previously – the lowest since July 24.

"There were no backlogged cases reported over five days in today's figures. From the caseload, 384 cases or 56.72 per cent are cases within a span of 24 hours, while the rest are cases reported between two to five days late.

"The data analysis shows that Sabah is on track to flatten the curve," he said in a statement today.

However, Masidi reminded Sabahans that the main factor which determined the rise and fall of new Covid-19 cases was the people's behaviour.

"Total compliance with the standard operating procedures (SOP) and good personal healthcare practices are the keys to prevent ourselves from Covid-19 infections."

Masidi said the data also showed that the number of cases in 21 districts had dropped, while five districts saw an increase, including Kinabatangan.

"Kinabatangan's drastic hike in infections to 107 compared to 15 the day before, was due to two new workplace clusters – Sungai Tabulion cluster and Sandau Sawit cluster – which contributed 82.2 per cent of the cases in the district," he said, adding that only Kudat district maintained its figure from the day before.

Masidi added that the Sungai Tabulion cluster stemmed from a 52-year-old female cleaner at the Malbumi Gedau oil palm estate, while the Sandau Sawit cluster sparked from a male factory driver.

Both index cases were non-Malaysians.

The state also recorded nine fatalities – four in Kota Kinabalu and one each in Keningau, Beluran, Tawau, Tenom and Sandakan.

As of yesterday, 66.3 per cent of the adult population in the state were fully vaccinated.
