Umno to sack reps for withdrawing support for Melaka CM

KUALA LUMPUR: Umno has issued a letter to sack its two assemblymen in Melaka who withdrew their support for the Barisan Nasional (BN) state government.

According to the Perikatan Nasional (PN) Backbenchers Portal, the letter dated Oct 5 was issued to former Melaka Chief Minister Datuk Seri Idris Haron, who is the Sungai Udang assemblyman.

The portal claimed that it had also sighted a letter dated Oct 4 issued to Pantai Kundor assemblyman Datuk Nor Azman Hassan.

The portal said the letter was signed by Umno secretary-general Datuk Seri Ahmad Maslan.

"The letter issued by Ahmad is to inform that both assemblymen have been immediately sacked from the party according to Clause 20.11 read together with Clause 20.9 (of the party's Constitution)," said the report.

The Melaka legislative assembly was dissolved after Idris, Nor Azman and two other assemblymen withdrew their support for the BN state government, leaving it without a majority in the 28-seat legislative assembly.

The other two are Pengkalan Batu state assembly Datuk Norhizam Hassan Baktee (Independent) and Telok Mas state assemblyman Datuk Noor Effandi Ahmad of Parti Pribumi Bersatu Malaysia (Bersatu).
