Covid-19 cases numbers drop sharply in Sabah

KOTA KINABALU: The number of Covid-19 daily cases in Sabah dropped sharply today to 426 positive cases.

Sabah Covid-19 spokesman Datuk Seri Masidi Manjun said this was the lowest figure recorded since July 16.

"Today the state recorded 426 new infections, a drop of 269 cases compared to yesterday's figure," he said in a statement.

He added that of the caseload, only 266 (62.43 per cent) occurred in the last 24 hours, while the rest were backlogged cases.

"We must continue to adhere to the SOP that have been outlined because the main factor influencing the change in numbers of Covid-19 daily cases is our own attitude.

"Sabah recorded an overall SOP compliance rate of 97.6 per cent. Only eight compounds have been issued across the State for Covid-19 SOP violation, namely for failure to register before entering premises."

Masidi said all districts in Sabah recorded below 50 cases and only five districts recorded a slight increase.

He said of the caseload, 236 involved fully vaccinated people, while 17 cases involved people who had received their first dose of the vaccine.

"Another 82 cases involved unvaccinated people, while 91 cases involved those who were not eligible for the vaccine."

Masidi said the low number of Categories 3, 4, and 5 infections indicated the effectiveness of vaccines.

"Only one case is in Category 3, four cases in Category 4 and two cases in Category 5.

"Meanwhile 96.48 per cent of the caseload fell under Categories 1 and 2, which require treatment and evaluation at home or at Covid-19 Quarantine and Low-Risk Treatment Centre (PKRC)," he said, adding another eight cases were still under evaluation by the state health authority.

Sabah registered 10 deaths due to the virus – three in Keningau and one each in Kudat, Sipitang, Pitas, Kota Kinabalu, Kota Marudu, Beluran and Nabawan.
