Health Ministry to release Covid-19 testing guidelines tomorrow

KUALA LUMPUR: The Health Ministry will release the National Covid-19 Testing Strategy document, a guideline for Malaysians on Covid-19 testing, as the country transitions into the endemic phase.

Health Minister Khairy Jamaluddin said the document, prepared by the ministry, would be uploaded to the Health Ministry website tomorrow morning.

"This document underlines a clear Covid-19 testing strategy on when and how often you would need to be tested, and others.

"This will cover guidelines on testing at the workplace, in schools and universities, conferences, concerts, stadiums, and others," he said in a press conference today.

He said the testing strategy would give a clearer and detailed picture to Malaysians on the frequency and need to be tested for Covid-19.

Meanwhile, touching on the Covid-19 pandemic situation in the country, Khairy said that nationwide, Covid-19 infection incidence continued to show a downward trend.

He said the cumulative number of Covid-19 cases had decreased by 17.9 per cent from 63,772 cases in Epid Week 40 to 52,321 in Epid Week 41 (Oct 10 to 16).

"The ministry projects an average of 7,576 cases daily recorded within the next five days (Oct 18 to 22)."

Although the cumulative number of Covid-19 cases nationally had decreased, Kuala Lumpur, Putrajaya and Negri Sembilan had recorded a rise in Epid Week 41 compared to Epid Week 40.

He said three states also reported an increase in the average incidence rate for a period of seven days in Epid Week 41 from Epid Week 40, with Putrajaya reporting a rate of 13.9 per cent, Negri Sembilan at 9.4 per cent and Perlis at 2.7 per cent.

"Nationally, the number of Covid-19 patients being treated in health facilities are going down from week to week, where patients in categories One to Five are also decreasing.

"However, attention must be given to these following findings… Sarawak, Kelantan and Selangor still report intensive care unit (ICU) and non-ICU bed usage of over 60 percent, while Penang and Perak still show a hospital bed utilisation of over 50 per cent," he added.
