80pc teens have received first Covid-19 vax dose

KUALA LUMPUR: In less than two months, 80 per cent of adolescents, aged between 12 and 17, have been inoculated with at least one dose of the Pfizer vaccine.

In a Twitter post, Health Minister Khairy Jamaluddin said the rate was one of the fastest adolescent Covid-19 vaccination rollouts in the world.

According to the CovidNow data shared by Khairy in the post, 80.2 per cent of adolescents have received at least one dose of the Covid-19 vaccine as of 11.59pm yesterday.

Of the total, 43.4 per cent have completed both doses, involving 1,367,216 adolescents, and 36.8 per cent partially vaccinated, involving 1,156,940 adolescents.

The remaining 19.8 per cent, or 623,344 adolescents, were unvaccinated.

In the same post, he also thanked his deputy Datuk Dr Noor Azmi Ghazali, who is the Covid-19 Immunisation Task Force-Adolescent (CITF-A) chairman, Deputy Education Minister Datuk Dr Mah Hang Soon, and everyone at CITF-A for the achievement.

The Covid-19 National Immunisation Programme (NIP) for adolescents officially kicked off on Sept 20, targeting the involvement of 3.2 million teenagers aged 12 to 17.
