Cops record statement of driver in Cyberjaya crash

KUALA LUMPUR: Police have recorded the statement of a 28-year-old woman who was involved in an accident which claimed the life of a cyclist at KM38.3 of Jalan Cyberjaya (Dengkil) – Puchong.

Selangor Police Traffic Investigation and Enforcement Department chief Superintendent Azman Shari'at said initial investigations found that the crash took place after the driver failed to avoid the cyclist at the road junction.

"The car then rear-ended the 57-year-old cyclist who was coming from Puchong.

"Investigation will continue under Section 41(1) of the Road Transport Act 1987," he said when contacted today.

Azman reminded all cyclists to comply with all safety aspects stipulated under the Road Transport Act 1987 and Road Traffic Rules 1959.

"We want to advise every cyclist to always abide by the traffic rules and laws for the benefit of themselves and other road users."

It was reported that a television crew member, Jeffry Aziz, 57, was pronounced dead at the scene after a car collided with his bike at 8.15am yesterday.

Sepang district police chief Assistant Commissioner Wan Kamarul Azran Wan Yusof was quoted as saying that the crash occurred on a regular road and there were no signs preventing the use of bicycles.
