Schools in Johor, Terengganu to reopen in phases from Nov 8

KUALA LUMPUR: All schools in Johor and Terengganu will be reopened in stages starting Nov 8 as both states transition into Phase 4 of the National Recovery Plan (NRP) from tomorrow (Oct 25).

The Education Ministry, in a statement today said students in Primary 1, 2 and 3 as well as Forms 3 and 4 will resume physical classes on Nov 8.

In-person teaching and learning will resume on Nov 14 for students in Primary 4, 5 and 6 as well as transition classes and Form 1.

However, it said private educational institutions registered under the ministry could operate according to their respective calendars.

"The ministry recommends that this ruling also be applied to all educational institutions that are not registered with the ministry, including educational institutions under the state government.

"The ministry is always committed to keep doing its best," the statement read.

The Education Ministry's statement came following the Prime Minister's announcement on Oct 22.

The ministry noted that if a state moves to the next phase, the operation of educational institutions in accordance with the new phase will be implemented after two weeks from the date of the transition to allow schools to prepare.

The ministry said while the operation of educational institutions under the ministry in Johor and Terengganu will be in accordance with the stipulated Phase 4 guidelines starting Nov 7, schools will commence on Nov 8.

This, it said was because Nov 7 is an additional holiday allocated in the ministry's school calendar in conjunction with the Deepavali celebration.

The ministry added that the operation of educational institutions under its purview in Johor and Terengganu will therefore continue to operate as per Phase 3 on Oct 25.

"The operation of Phase 3 involves pre-school students, students with special needs (MBK) in Sekolah Kebangsaan Pendidikan Khas, Sekolah Menengah Pendidikan Khas Vokasional dan Program Pendidikan Khas Integrasi, Form 6 Semester 2, Prauniversiti Sekolah Sukan Malaysia, public examination classes in full boarding schools/day schools/private schools, International Baccalaureate Diploma, as well as international examination classes (IGCSE O-Level, A-Level and IBD) and other international examination classes."
