Lover of antiques buys century-old bicycle for RM300

KUALA PILAH: Initially, it might look like some rusting hunk of scrap metal. However, no one would have thought the bicycle, which is over 100 years old, could fetch a price of RM2,000 in market value.

An elderly woman, from Kampung Kubang Rusa here, has sentimental value for the bicycle as it previously belonged to her late father, who was a police lance corporal.

The buyer of the vintage bicycle, Mohd Shanusi Saari, 35, said she entrusted him with the bicycle after it was nearly stolen three years ago.

"I know 'Makcik' Ruhil, 75, because I often pass by her house. Due to my interest in antiques, I tried buying the bicycle from her, but she refused me three times.

"She loves the bicycle because it is the only item left by her late father. He used it to go to work when he was young and it is estimated to be over 100 years old.

"However, one day, Makcik Ruhil said someone tried to steal the bicycle."

Shanusi said she reluctantly sold him the bicycle because she did not want it to fall into the hands of people who do not appreciate its value.

"I bought the bicycle for RM300 and have been entrusted to take care of it."
