Simpang Pulai landslide: Body of Vellfire driver retrieved

IPOH: The body of the driver of the Toyota Vellfire that was buried by the landslide at FT185 Jalan Simpang Pulai-Blue Valley has been retrieved.

Perak Fire and Rescue Department director Azmi Osman said the body was pulled out from under the detritus of the landslide at 9.39pm.

"There was only one person in the multi-purpose vehicle and the victim was heading to Penang from Gua Musang, Kelantan.

"However, we have yet to identify the victim, who is in his 50s and from Klang, Selangor," he said in a press conference today.

He added that the body was taken to the Raja Permaisuri Bainun Hospital for post-mortem examination.

Azmi also said efforts to extricate the body of the 31-year-old lorry driver who was found at about 8pm were still ongoing.

The landslide is believed to have occurred at about 1.30pm following heavy rain, which loosened the soil.

Debris from the landslide covered a 100m stretch and blanketed both sides of the road, rendering it impassable to vehicles.

Perak Infrastructure, Energy, Water and Public Transport Committee chairman Datuk Mohd Zolkafly Harun said the Public Works Department (PWD) had been keeping a close watch on the situation at the affected area.
