Covid-19 cases at Cyberjaya school climbs to 143

KUALA LUMPUR: The number of confirmed Covid-19 cases at Sekolah Seri Puteri in Cyberjaya or the Persiaran Tasik cluster has climbed to 143 today.

Health director-general Tan Sri Dr Noor Hisham Abdullah, in a statement today, said all positive cases are currently in stable condition.

The 143 cases, he said, comprised 114 students, 19 students and 10 staff with the outbreak having a 14.7 per cent attack rate.

"Of the 143 Covid-19 positive cases, 106 cases were Category One infections while another 35 cases were Category 2A infections and two cases – one student and one teacher – were Category 2B infections. All positive cases are currently in stable condition.

"All students who tested positive for the virus and one teacher have been admitted to the Malaysia Agro Exposition Park Serdang (MAEPS) Covid-19 Quarantine and Low-Risk Treatment Centre for treatment and further observation," he said.

The ministry, he said, has also identified 700 close contacts under this cluster, which includes 603 students, 59 teachers and 38 staff.

"Close contacts involving students were placed at two quarantine centres at Institut Aminuddin Baki and Institut Latihan Islam Malaysia. Close contacts involving teachers and staff have been instructed to undergo home quarantine.

"Besides screening and isolation of positive cases and close contacts, the school has been ordered to close temporarily under Section 18 of the Prevention and Control of Infectious Diseases Act 1988 to give way for cleaning and disinfection.

"A briefing session was also held for the school's Parent-Teacher Association (PTA). Continuous monitoring will be done to ensure the cluster remains under control," he added.

The Persiaran Tasik cluster was identified on Nov 29 after eight positive cases were detected involving the school.

The Sepang district health office, subsequently, conducted screening on 973 individuals from the school.
