Five-meter king cobra captured in duck coop

KUANTAN: A farmer was shocked to find a five metre king cobra in his duck coop at Kampung Baru Sri Pandan near here and sought help immediately.

Three Civil Defence Force (APM) personnel who were deployed to the scene spent about 15 minutes to capture the 12kg reptile which became aggressive, requiring the use of a special equipment to catch it.

Kuantan APM officer Captain (PA) Zubaidah Said said the department received a call about 3.35pm from a farmer who went to feed his poultry and he noticed the snake, known as ular tedung selar among locals, in the coop.

"When our team arrived, the deadly cobra was inside the coop. It was aggressive, so we had to calm it down first in order to capture it safely without injuring anybody.

"It was taken to the departitent's office before our personnel released it into the nearby forest, located far from any housing settlement," she said when contacted.
