Covid-19 infectivity rate climbing

KUALA LUMPUR: The nationwide Covid-19 infectivity rate rose to 0.98 yesterday.

Health Minister Khairy Jamaluddin in sharing the update, remarked that the R-naught (Rt) value was nearing 1.0 again.

"Two weeks ago when it breached 1.0, we all played our part to bring down the Rt.

"Believe that we can (bring the Rt down again).

"Face masks, physical distancing, avoid congested spaces, booster shots, protect your parents and #TRIIS," he said on Twitter today.

The highest Rt value was at 1.12 in Perlis followed by Melaka at 1.04.

The Rt in Perak was 1.01; Kedah (1.0); Selangor, Penang, Kuala Lumpur, Labuan (0.99); Pahang (0.98); Johor (0.97); Terengganu (0.96); Kelantan (0.95); Sabah, Putrajaya and Negri Sembilan (0.93); and Sarawak (0.72).

The country's Rt spiked since Nov 7 and surpassed 1.0 on Nov 12, but was on a downward trend to Rt 0.95 on Nov 29.

However, the Rt value started to rise again since Dec 2.
