Two men almost drowned trying to retrieve vehicle in hotel parking lot

SHAH ALAM: Two people almost drowned when they were caught in a rapidly flooding underground parking lot of a hotel in Section 13 here while trying to move a vehicle.

Selangor Fire and Rescue director, Norazam Khamis said members of the public managed to stop a fire engine which happened to pass through the area this afternoon and sought their aid.

"We were informed of the incident and subsequently initiated rescue operations.

"Upon arriving at the location, firefighters found two men in their 30s in the hotel's underground parking lot who were trying to remove a vehicle that was submerged in floodwaters.

"At the time, the water had reached the level of the stairs and the victims were believed to be heading up to save themselves.

"The firefighters acted swiftly to evacuate the victims before the water level rose further," he said in a statement today.

Norazam added that when the rescue operation was completed, the fire engine in turn was stuck at the location due to rising water level.
