Seven new Covid-19 cases detected among flood victims

KUALA LUMPUR: Seven new Covid-19 cases were detected among flood victims today, said Health director-general Tan Sri Dr Noor Hisham Abdullah.

The fresh infections raised the tally to 451 people identified to have contracted the coronavirus amid the nation's flood disaster, he added.

"There are no new Covid-19 infections or clusters detected at the temporary relief centres (PPS) today. The figure remains at 15 cases and one cluster," he said in a statement this evening.

Separately, Dr Noor Hisham said seven flood victims caught three types of contagious diseases.

"Four were found to have Acute Respiratory Infection (ARI), two with skin diseases and one with acute gastroenteritis (AGE). To date, a total 71 of them (flood victims) are down with contagious diseases," he said.

Data shared by Dr Noor Hisham showed that 1,975 victims are down with five types of contagious diseases.

Of the number, 1,189 victims have ARI, 525 with skin diseases, 239 with AGE, 16 with conjunctivitis and six with hand foot mouth disease.

Up to 3pm today, there are a total of 5,753 flood victims and 86 PPS operating in Pahang (41), Johor (19), Negri Sembilan (10), Kelantan (five), Melaka (five), Terengganu (four) and Sabah (two), said Dr Noor Hisham.
