KUALA LUMPUR: Malaysia recorded 3,010 new Covid-19 cases today, pushing the tally since the pandemic began to 2,808,347.
Of the total, only less than one per cent was under Category 3 to 5.
Health director-general Tan Sri Dr Noor Hisham Abdullah said that Category 1 and 2 patients make up 2,982 cases, equivalent to 99.1 per cent.
"The remaining 0.9 per cent or 28 cases, are Category 3, 4 and 5 cases," he said in a statement today.
Of today's new cases, 2,747 were local transmissions while 263 were imported.
Dr Noor Hisham also said number of patients being treated in the intensive care units nationwide continue to dropped to 182.
From the figure, 146 are confirmed Covid-positive and the other 36 cases categorised as suspected, probable and under investigation.
"Eighty-three of them are on ventilator support with 58 confirmed Covid-19 cases and 25 classified as patients under investigation or suspected to have the virus," he added.
Dr Noor Hisham said 19 deaths related to Covid-19 were recorded including six brought-in-dead (BID) cases as of midnight yesterday.
Meanwhile, he said 2,584 recoveries were recorded today, raising the tally to 2,735,355.
Covid-19 active cases as of midnight was 40,785.
Dr Noor Hisham also said the ministry had detected seven new clusters, bringing the number of active ones to 176.
As of yesterday, the country's Covid-19 infectivity rate (Rt) dropped to 0.99.
Kuala Lumpur reported the highest Rt value at 1.08 followed by Sabah (1.04), Negeri Sembilan (1.02), Selangor (1.01) and Melaka (1.0)
States which recorded infectivity below 1.0 are Johor (0.99); Penang (0.97); Kedah (0.95), Pahang (0.93); Perak (0.92), and Kelantan (0.9).
"Infectivity rate in Terengganu was 0.8 while no Rt value was assigned for Putrajaya, Sarawak, Perlis and Labuan," he added.
