Woman gives birth outside temple in Batu Caves, assisted by devotees

BATU CAVES: A woman gave birth inside a four-wheel drive just outside the Sri Subramaniar Temple at Batu Caves, this morning.

A few devotees who were walking with the temple procession heard her cries and rushed to her aid.

They found that the woman was in labour. Her husband had been driving her to hospital when she went into labour and he stopped the vehicle by the side of the road near the temple to help her.

L.K. Savantharaja, who was at the scene, said the woman delivered her baby girl at 7.24am and the paramedics arrived shortly after.

"It was quite an experience, just like in a movie," he said.

He said he believed the baby was a blessing as she was delivered right outside Lord Muruga's temple.

Savantharaja said the husband, who was still in a state of shock, managed to thank the crowd and wished them Happy Thaipusam before driving his wife and baby girl to the hospital.

"Although both the mother and baby appeared to be healthy, the paramedics advised them to go to the hospital for a thorough check up," he said.

Savanthaja's posting on Facebook about the experience has gained a steady traction.
