KUALA LUMPUR: Tan Sri Azam Baki will continue his duty as the Malaysian Anti-Corruption Commission (MACC) chief commissioner following the outcome of the inquiry by Securities Commission (SC).
In a statement today, Azam said he was thankful for the SC's decision.
"Alhamdulilah, I am thankful for the decision of the SC which has found that I have not committed any offence.
"I have been informed by the SC that the inquiry into the matter has been concluded. As such, it has closed the inquiry file accordingly.
"With that, I will continue my responsibility as the chief commissioner of the MACC to fight corruption in the country without fear or favour," he said.
Earlier today, the SC said its probe into alleged wrongdoings on Azam's part had not been conclusive in establishing that a breach under Section 25(4) of the Securities Central Depository Act 1991 (SICDA) had occurred.
"Section 25(4) SICDA provides that a trading account must be opened in the name of the beneficial owner or authorised nominee.
"The SC has concluded its enquiry and based on the evidence gathered, the SC is not able to conclusively establish that a breach under section 25(4) SICDA has occurred," it said in a statement.
