Nearly half of Covid-19 booster recipients are Sinovac-Sinovac-Pfizer

KUALA LUMPUR: Almost half of the 10 million booster shots recipients were the combination of two doses of Sinovac (CoronaVac) and a Pfizer (Comirnaty) booster shot.

Crisis Preparedness and Response Centre (CPRC) head of data Dr Mahesh Appannan said this comprised 49.3 per cent of the total booster shot recipients so far.

This is followed by 30.2 per cent of those who took all three the Covid-19 shots of Pfizer, while 7.8 per cent took all Sinovac shots and 4.4 per cent took all AstraZeneca (AZ) shots.

Some 4.4 per cent took the combination of first two doses of AZ followed by Pfizer booster shots, he said.

"Two per cent took double Sinovac shots followed by AZ booster; and double Pfizer shots followed by AZ booster.

"The remaining 0.2 per cent are of rare combinations, such as those who took double Pfizer shots followed by Sinovac booster," he said in a Twitter thread today.

He also said that almost 50 per cent of original AZ vaccine recipients agreed to take AZ booster.

This, he said, showed people's confidence towards the data shared by the Health Ministry.

As of yesterday (Jan 19), 10,002,472 booster shots were administered in the country.

The country began administering booster shots in the final quarter of last year and this has been accelerated amid the latest Omicron Covid-19 variant.
