Malaysians pray for Dr Mahathir's recovery, PM arrives at IJN [NSTTV]

KUALA LUMPUR: Prime Minister Datuk Seri Ismail Sabri Yaakob arrived at the National Heart Institute (IJN) at 5.30pm in a white Toyota Vellfire accompanied by a motorcade.

Expected to visit former premier Tun Dr Mahathir Mohamed who is currently placed at the hospital's Coronary Care Unit (CCU), the prime minister waved at members of the press from inside the vehicle.

The IJN said that it would issue a statement on Dr Mahathir's condition soon.

Over on social media, Malaysians have begun posting wishes for a speedy recovery for Dr Mahathir, 96.

Youth and Sports Minister Datuk Seri Ahmad Faizal Azumu who wrote under the Twitter handle @PejaofPerak

said: "Let us pray for Allah to always protect our statesman. We love you, Tun M."

Segambut member of Parliament Hannah Yeoh wrote:

"Praying for you Tun @chedetofficial. May God Almighty bless you, touch you and heal you."

Twitter user @MatRodi_MY called on Malaysians to remember Dr Mahathir's great contributions to the country and put aside any political differences.

"I rarely write about my doa (prayers) on Twitter. However, only this time, I hope we all can pray for Tun Dr Mahathir's health and well-being.

"Our politics, policies and personalities can be different. But this human being has done so much for our country, religion and nation," he said.

Dr Mahathir holds the record as Malaysia's longest-serving prime minister. He is the only statesman who has led the administration in two separate tenures, from 1981 to 2003 and from 2018 to 2020.

He has also been cited as the factor that led to the success of Pakatan Harapan (PH) in the 2018 general election to wrest Putrajaya from Barisan Nasional (BN).
