King undergoing health check, treatment at IJN

KUALA LUMPUR: Yang di-Pertuan Agong Al-Sultan Abdullah Ri'ayatuddin Al-Mustafa Billah Shah is currently undergoing health checks and follow-up treatments at the National Heart Institute (IJN).

Istana Negara, in a statement today, said Al-Sultan Abdullah was admitted to the royal ward in IJN on Saturday.

Comptroller of the Royal Household Datuk Ahmad Fadil Shamsuddin said the treatment was a follow-up to the intervention treatment in September 2020 involving Al-Sultan Abdullah's knee joints and ankle.

"His Majesty underwent the intervention treatment on Sept 24 in 2020 for injuries to the knee joints and ankle sustained during sports activities.

"The follow-up treatment to the intervention procedure was postponed following the implementation of the Covid-19 prevention Standard Operating Procedures (SOP) at public hospitals including IJN," said Ahmad Fadil in the statement.

He said the King is also undergoing respiratory checks at IJN.

"His Majesty's health is generally good and that there is nothing of concern. His Majesty is expected to return to and recuperate at Istana Negara soon after the follow-up treatment concludes.

"The people are urged to pray for His Majesty's longevity and good health," the statement said.

A motorcade bearing Raja Permaisuri Agong Tunku Azizah Aminah Maimunah Iskandariah and Regent of Pahang Tengku Hassanal Ibrahim Alam Shah Al-Sultan Abdullah were spotted earlier today arriving separately at IJN.

Former prime minister Tun Dr Mahathir Mohamad has also been admitted at the IJN since Thursday.

It was reported that the Langkawi member of parliament, who was admitted to the IJN's Coronary Care Unit (CCU), was in stable condition.
