Noor Hisham: Cases will spike with Omicron wave

KUALA LUMPUR: Health director-general Tan Sri Dr Noor Hisham Abdullah today warned that the number of Covid-19 cases will spike with the beginning of the Omicron wave in the country.

In a Facebook post, he said the government would bank on the extensive vaccination coverage, public health measures such as standard operating procedure (SOP) compliance and periodic self-testings to reduce the severity of cases and hospital admissions.

"Cases will rise… we, together, can reduce the impact and the severity of the infection particularly among the vulnerable groups.

"Public and private health systems are on standby. Let's overcome this wave together by wearing a mask, applying TRIIS ((trace, report, isolate, inform and search), and getting ourselves the booster jab," he said.

Dr Noor Hisham also tweeted, urging the public to take all precautionary and social measures to protect themselves and their loved ones.

"In view of the increasing Covid-19 and Omicron cases, please get vaccinated and the booster shots as well as practice self-isolation if symptomatic.

"Please conduct periodic self-testing with the RTK-Ag (rapid test kit antigen). It is crucial to avoid crowded and confined spaces. Take all precautionary and social measures to protect yourself and your love ones."
