Speed limit on federal, state roads reduced by 10km/h for CNY

KUALA LUMPUR: The speed limit on federal and state roads nationwide has been reduced by 10 kilometres per hour (km/h) effective from Jan 25 to Feb 8.

The Works Ministry said the speed limit reduction on the nation' public roads is in conjunction with the Chinese New Year (CNY) 2022 celebration which falls on Feb 1 and 2.

"The speed limit on federal roads and state roads nationwide has been reduced by 10km/h, bringing the federal road speed limit from 90km/h to 80km/h, while state roads from 80km/h to 70km/h, which will take effect from Jan 25 to Feb 8.

"The gazetting of the temporary speed limit reduction is among the safety and surveillance measures taken by the government to improve safety and reduce the risk of road accidents which often occurs during the festive season," the ministry said in a statement.

The ministry added that it will cooperate with the Transport Ministry and the police to conduct continuous monitoring of the traffic conditions on the nation's roads during the festive period.
