5,139 new Covid-19 cases today

KUALA LUMPUR: The number of Covid-19 cases remains above the 5,000 mark for the third consecutive day at 5,139 as of noon.

Heath director-general Tan Sri Dr Noor Hisham Abdullah said this pushed the cumulative number of cases since the pandemic began to 2,861,069.

Dr Noor Hisham said 3,767 recoveries were also recorded today, bringing the total to 2,777,715.

Currently, 119 cases are being treated at intensive care units where 69 patients are on ventilator support.

Meanwhile, the national infectivity rate (Rt) stood at 1.15 on Friday.

Infectivity rate in Negri Sembilan and Kedah was above the national level at 1.19 followed by Johor at 1.14; Melaka at 1.13; Kuala Lumpur and Selangor at 1.10; Penang and Putrajaya at 1.08; and Sabah at 1.06.

The infectivity rate in Kelantan and Pahang is 1.05; and Perak at 1.0.

"Infectivity rate in Terengganu is 0.9 while no Rt value has been assigned for Perlis, Labuan and Sarawak," Dr Noor Hisham said.

Five new clusters were also identified today. There are now 291 active clusters nationwide.
