'String of 2s' adds on to auspicious meaning behind second day of CNY

KUALA LUMPUR: The phrase 'two is better than one' has been popularised many moons ago, which signifies partnerships, in any kind, brings happiness and calm to the soul.

In the year 2022, the second day of Chinese New Year coincides with the angel number of February 2, 2022.

Although feng shui practitioners believe the date brings no additional meaning, however, it did add on to the auspicious meaning behind the second day of the Tiger Year celebrations.

Good Feng Shui chief researcher and consultant Kenny Hoo is in the opinion that the number two brings the meaning of easy life, smooth and good partnership.

He said the second day of Chinese New Year, however, was known as the Harvest or Receive Day, a positive symbol of a day to receive great harvests.

He said the date Feb 2, 2022, makes the day looks even more auspicious to those celebrating.

"The custom of the second day of Chinese New Year or known as Kai Nian (Open-Year day) is where married women would go back to their family for visits and get together.

"It's a positive and happy day which symbolises the actual entering of the new Lunar Year and from this day onward, with great hope, that all of the undertakings to go one smoothly throughout the year.

"Usually on Kai Nian day, families would do prayers together in the morning, and everybody will begin visiting families and friends, with a happy mindset and good greetings," he told New Straits Times when contacted, today.

Kenny said the second day of Chinese New Year is also known as Huí Wai Jia, where the married daughters return home to visit their parents with their husband and children.

"So on February 2, 2022, the day of the celebration looks even more auspicious with a series of the digits '2'.

"On this particular day, it is suitable to meet with lots of new, old friends and relatives, that can help to create and accumulate a lot good Qi and good fortunes amongst and for each other," he said.

Meanwhile, an astrologer from India with years of experience in both astrology and numerology, M.Sunthar said although it's unique, the date does not hold much significance with the Tamil beliefs.

"Yes, it is special because of so many 2's lined up in the date and it could only happen once in a person's lifetime. But according to the Hindu almanack, it's not one of the most favourable numbers.

"In numerology, every number has its planet, characteristics and powers. Moon is the designated planet for number 2," said the man who has long resided here in Sentul.

He said the date 2.2.2022 when accumulated will result in a total of 1, which is a number with strong leadership qualities but it has no great significance when it's a date.

"However, these days younger people don't follow superstition or pay much attention to significance. It's more convenient now," he said.

Sunthar said there's nothing wrong to choose this day to do something special like getting engaged, having a wedding, housewarming, naming ceremony or any auspicious celebration.

"I'm sure there must be couples who have chosen to tie their knots today because of the line up in the date and for it's easy to remember. No harm with that since I too coincide with the CNY celebration, plus a public holiday," added the 62-year-old man.

However, Sunthar said if one were to start a new business or office, the date and number may be favourable for its success.
