Usage of hospital, ICU beds for Covid-19 patients rising

KUALA LUMPUR: Utilisation rates of hospital and intensive care unit (ICU) beds for Covid-19 patients have resumed an upward trend.

The CovidNow website showed that the national average bed utilisation for Covid-19 patients increased to 63.4 per cent as of yesterday, from 61.8 per cent the day before.

Four states reported bed utilisation above 70 per cent with the highest usage in Negri Sembilan with 75.4 per cent followed by Melaka with 75.1 per cent.

Bed utilisation in Kedah was 74.9 per cent while Johor was 71.1 per cent.

Bed utilisation for Covid-19 patients in other states was between 40 and 65.6 per cent.

The national average for intensive care unit (ICU) utilisation for Covid-19 cases also increased to 52 per cent yesterday.

It was 51 per cent the day before.

Only Kuala Lumpur and Johor were above the 70 per cent mark at 76.9 per cent and 72.3 per cent respectively.

The rate at other states was between 15.8 per cent and 69 per cent.

Overall active Covid-19 cases also increased to 65,952 after 6,546 recoveries were reported yesterday.

There are 57,895 people who observing home quarantine, making up 87.8 per cent of the total active cases in the country.

A total 6.4 per cent (4,205) patients are being treated at Covid-19 quarantine and treatment centres (PKRC), 5.7 per cent (3,729) are hospitalised and the remaining 0.2 per cent are at intensive care units (ICU) with 56 unventilated and 67 ventilated.
