New Covid-19 cases breach 10,000 today

KUALA LUMPUR: The number of daily Covid-19 infections continues to rise for the forth consecutive day, breaching the 10,000 mark today.

According to a tweet by Health director-general Tan Sri Dr Noor Hisham Abdullah, the country recorded 10,089 cases today.

This brings the cumulative number of Covid-19 infections to 2,914,220 since the pandemic began.

Health Minister Khairy Jamaluddin said that the country was now experiencing the Omicron wave.

He said the cases will breach the 15,000 mark soon, adding that one million senior citizens in the country have yet to get their booster shots.

"Please inform your beloved elders to get their booster shots immediately," he said in a tweet today.

Selangor recorded the highest number of new infections at 2,549 cases followed by Johor at 1,582 cases and Sabah at 1,285 cases.

Kedah reported 904 cases, followed by Kelantan (471), Kuala Lumpur (491), Penang (542), Pahang (624), Negri Sembilan (464), Melaka (457), Perak (321), Terengganu (213) and Putrajaya (61).

Perlis reported 44 cases, Sarawak 58 cases and Labuan 23 cases.
