Peyatim to embark on integrated development project

KUALA LUMPUR: The Malaysian Orphans Welfare Association (Peyatim) is set to develop an integrated development called Taman Rimba Asean (TRA) in Dungun, Terengganu.

Its president Prof Datuk Dr Tengku Mahmud Mansor said the integrated development on a 566ha plot of land will be developed for the interests and welfare of the orphans and poor children in the country and nine other countries in Southeast Asia.

"TRA is a development project which includes religious aspects, education, economics, agricultural, entrepreneurship, tourism, society and nature sustainability.

"There are three main components of TRA namely Asean Academy of Islamic Studies; eco-edu tourism centre; and various economic, agriculture and small and medium enterprises projects," he told reporters after the Friends of Peyatim gathering held yesterday.

Tengku Mahmud said to fund the project, it would be implemented through the sale of land in the said development under Peyatim's Waqaf Land Scheme for the Education of Orphans and the Poor.

He said three packages with a payment period of five years have been introduced for the purpose.

Package A involves a monthly payment of RM300 per month for 600sq ft of land; Package B (RM150 per month for 300 sq ft of land); and Package C (RM90 per month for 180 sq ft of land).

"We are hoping to raise RM50 million through the scheme in the next five years."

Tengku Mahmud added the first phase of the development is expected to involve an area of 240ha at a cost of RM80 million.
