Ruler reminds MPs to stop politicking and focus on the rakyat [NSTTV]

KUALA LUMPUR: Yang di-Pertuan Agong Al-Sultan Abdullah Ri'ayatuddin Al-Mustafa Billah Shah has once again reminded all members of Parliament to end of forms all politicking and focus on looking after the welfare of the people.

Al-Sultan Abdullah reiterated the reminder in the form of a "pantun nasihat" (an old Malay poem that usually consists of four lines in each stanza) that he recited at the end of his royal address during the opening of the First Meeting of the Fifth Session of the 14th Parliament today.

The pantun read:

Busana tradisi kain bersulam,

(Traditional attire with embroidered fabric)

Warnanya jingga, berawan larat

(Orange in colour, with designs of clouds on the fabric)

Cukuplah berpolitik siang dan malam

(Enough politicking day and night)

Fokuskan menjaga kepentingan rakyat

(Focus on looking after the interests of the people).

Earlier, the Yang di-Pertuan Agong urged all MPs to continue displaying political maturity as well as maintaining and preserving the political stability.

Political maturity, said the King, had allowed the country to progress subsequently improving the welfare and wellbeing of the people.

"I am very pleased and grateful for the political stability (reached between the government and opposition) through the bi-partisan cooperation via the Memorandum of Understanding on Transformation and Political Stability signed between the Government and the Opposition.

"Alhamdulillah, at present the political climate is more stable to ensure the success of the nation's development agenda for the benefit of the people and the nation's future.

"As a result, amendments to the Federal Constitution related to the Malaysia Agreement 1963 was successfully approved by more than two-thirds of Dewan Rakyat and Dewan Negara members last December," he said.
