New era begins at UMP as Yuserrie is appointed 5th vice-chancellor

PEKAN: Professor Datuk Dr Yuserrie Zainuddin has been appointed the new vice-chancellor of Universiti Malaysia Pahang (UMP) effective today.

UMP, in a statement, said Yuserrie, who previously served as the acting and deputy vice-chancellor (Student Affairs and Alumni), has been named its fifth vice-chancellor.

Yuserrie, 60, graduated with a bachelor's degree in Social Science from Universiti Sains Malaysia (USM) before obtaining his master's in Commerce at the University of Wollongong, Australia, in 1992.

In 1997, he obtained his doctorate in Business Administration from Universiti Kebangsaan Malaysia.

He began his career with UMP in 2009 and was elected the Dean of the Institute of Postgraduate Studies (IPS) in 2010. Before joining UMP, Yuserrie served 11 years with USM.

Besides serving as the acting vice-chancellor since Aug 29 last year, Yuserrie had been the deputy vice-chancellor (Student Affairs and Alumni) for 11 years.

In his short speech at Canseleri Tun Abdul Razak, today, Yuserrie urged the UMP community to work together to ensure the UMP Strategic Plan 2021-2025 (UMP25) becomes a success.

He expressed his appreciation to the Higher Education Ministry for his appointment and thanked Professor Dr Wan Azhar Wan Yusoff who displayed good leadership and performance during his tenure as the fourth vice-chancellor.
