Govt spends RM300,000 to address Pos Bihai human-tiger conflict

KOTA BARU: The government has spent about RM300,000 to resolve the human-tiger conflict case in Pos Bihai, Gua Musang.

Energy and Natural Resources Minister Datuk Seri Takiyuddin Hassan said the cost involved procurement of equipment and related logistical requirements.

"The government has carried out various efforts and has taken several initiatives to ensure the safety of the people.

"The government via the Wildlife and National Parks Department has spent about RM300,000 to handle one tiger case reported in the country, particularly in Pos Bihai, Gua Musang.

"The money was for the procurement of equipment, allowance and transportation," he said.

Speaking to reporters after the launch of the Kota Baru Family programme here today, Takiyuddin, who is Kota Baru Member of Parliament, said the efforts were among the short and long-term measures taken to address human-tiger conflict in the country.

He said the government has also made consolation and compensation payments to those affected by the human-tiger conflict including the Orang Asli.

"I was informed all the payments have already been disbursed to those affected by the tiger's threats and to those who lost a family member recently. They have received RM20,000 from the government," he added.

Asked on the operation to track down the tigers at the Orang Asli settlements in Gua Musang, Takiyuddin said the operation is still ongoing.

"The government want to ensure the safety and welfare of the Orang Asli community there and operation to track down the tiger is still being carried out in the area," he said.
