Heightened security as Malaysia transitions to endemicity [NSTTV]

KUALA LUMPUR: The General Operations Force (GOF) has been deployed to heighten security at the nation's borders as Malaysia prepares to enter the transition to endemic phase on Friday (April 1).

Inspector-General of Police Tan Sri Acryl Sani Abdullah said they have their eyes on tackling any eventualities that may arise at the country's borders as well as neighbouring countries.

"With Malaysia entering the transition to endemic stage, it means we are returning to the pre-pandemic normal.

"The reopening of borders will bring convenience to travellers and the police will increase alertness," he said today.

Acryl Sani said this after the launch of a book titled Cyber Crimes in Malaysia: The Impact on Internet at the 17th Defence Services Asia Exhibition and Conference and the Second National Security Asia Exhibition and Conference.

GOF, he added, will launch two programmes in Kelantan and Kedah which will detail their level of preparedness in overcoming any possibilities.

Prime Minister Datuk Seri Ismail Sabri Yaakob, on March 8, announced that Malaysia will transition to endemicity on April 1.

He said this was an exit strategy to enable Malaysia to return to normalcy after two years of battling Covid-19.
