PENAMPANG: A man has died after collapsing while playing football at the Penampang Sports Complex, here, yesterday.
In the incident about 6pm, the 57-year-old victim, who was playing the goalkeeper position, suddenly collapsed.
District police chief Deputy Superintendent Mohd Haris Ibrahim said, the victim's friend rushed to help the victim while others contacted the authorities for help.
He said firemen from the Penampang Fire and Rescue Station arrived at the scene after receiving an emergency call.
"The firemen immediately gave cardiopulmonary resuscitation to the victim before sending him to the Queen Elizabeth Hospital here.
"However, the victim was confirmed dead while receiving treatment at the Emergency Department of HQE," he said when contacted.
Mohd Haris said the man's cause of death has not been determined and the victim's body has been sent to the Forensics Department for autopsy.
"The case is classified as sudden death (SDR)," he said.
