3 broiler farmers investigated on suspicion of profiteering

MANJUNG: The Manjung Domestic Trade and Consumer Affairs Ministry (KPDNHEP) has opened three investigation papers on three broiler farmers over suspicion of profiteering.

Perak KPDNHEP director Saifullizan Kamarul Zaman said the farmers were found to have increased the prices at the farm level, exceeding the maximum chicken pricing scheme.

Saifullizan said the Manjung KPDNHEP carried out inspections and investigations in the district on Tuesday and yesterday.

"Further checks revealed that they are suspected to have increased the selling price of live chicken at the farm level at a price that exceeds the current control price, which is from RM5.60 per kg to between RM6.05 and RM6.30 per kg.

"These three farmers are registered with the Perak State Veterinary Services Department and operate in the Manjung district. The supply of broilers is for distribution around the state, Penang, Selangor, and Kuala Lumpur," he said in a statement today.

He added that following this, three investigation papers have been opened against them under Section 11 of the Price Control and Anti-Profiteering Act of 2011.

Saifullizan said to date, the supply of basic necessities for all consumers in the Manjung district is adequate and there have been no complaints of lack of supply or panic purchasing.

"We would like to remind all traders to be more ethical and stern action will be taken if they fail to comply with all regulations set under the Act enforced by the ministry.

"All traders should be more attentive and highly committed to every business or trade activity.

"All consumers are also reminded to exercise their rights wisely during the month of Ramadan to avoid being manipulated by traders," he added.
