Tuak nipah remains a popular drink in Kelantan

TUMPAT: Tuak nipah, a sweet drink made from the sap extracted from nipah palm, remains popular in Kelantan during Ramadan.

Most traders in the state sell the drink by setting up small stalls along the roadside.

One of them is Noorzaliza Deraman, 37, who operates a stall near Tumpat town.

Noorzaliza, from Kampung Berangan, started selling the drink, which she named "Pok Man tuak nipah" in 2019.

"I took over the business from my father three years ago as he was unable to continue due to health reasons.

"At the beginning, l was not confident that I could do it because the business is dominated by men.

"But with encouragement from my husband, l pushed through and now we are able to earn a side income for our family," she said.

Her tuak nipah is priced at RM11 for 1.25 litres and RM5 for 500ml.

"My tuak nipah has no added sugar and comes purely from the nipah sap," she said.
