Khairy: Quarantine not required for close contacts, even if unvaxxed

KUALA LUMPUR: Covid-19 close contacts are no longer required to quarantine, even if they are unvaccinated, said Health Minister Khairy Jamaluddin.

In a press conference in Parliament today, he said the new protocol would come into effect on April 22, and would apply to asymptomatic close contacts.

"Those who are close contacts would not need to be isolated if they are asymptomatic, irrespective of vaccination status."

Previously, only close contacts who had received their booster jabs and were asymptomatic were allowed to skip the compulsory isolation protocol.

Khairy said symptomatic close contacts were advised to self-quarantine and conduct an RTK-Antigen self-test on the onset of symptoms and on the third day.

If the self-test was negative and symptoms improve, the close contact would be allowed to do outdoor activities.

Positive cases must still undergo a seven-day quarantine.
