Covid-19 cases increase to 3,361 yesterday

KUALA LUMPUR: The Health Ministry logged 3,361 new Covid-19 cases in the country yesterday, up from 2,478 on Monday.

Health director-general Tan Sri Dr Noor Hisham Abdullah said 3,355 of the cases were local infections, involving 3,221 Malaysians and 134 foreigners, while only six were imported cases.

This brings the cumulative number of cases in the country to 4,436,912, with 61,871 active cases.

A majority of cases were quarantined at home, while only 2.51 per cent of patients had to be hospitalised.

In a statement today, Dr Noor Hisham said 101 patients were being treated in the intensive care units (ICU), including 55 confirmed Covid-19 cases, and 46 suspected, probable and under investigation cases.

He said 63 patients required ventilators, including 35 Covid-19 cases.

"Of the 3,361 cases reported on April 26, 99.11 per cent were in categories one and two, while 30 cases were classified in categories three, four, and five.

"Among the 30 cases (in categories three, four and five), 14 cases or 46.67 per cent are unvaccinated or have not completed vaccination, 10 cases had not received their booster shots, while six have.

"Sixteen of the 30 cases are aged 60 and above, 17 have comorbidities and one is a pregnant woman," he said.

Dr Noor Hisham added that 9,484 people have recovered from Covid-19, increasing the number of cumulative recoveries to 4,339,521.

The ministry also recorded 13 deaths due to the coronavirus, including one brought-in-dead case. The total number of deaths now stands at 35,520.

On Covid-19 health facility usage, Dr Noor Hisham said all states showed less than 50 per cent admissions for critical, ICU, non-ICU and Covid-19 Quarantine and Low-Risk Treatment Centre beds.
