Khairy: Face masks no longer mandatory outdoors from May 1 [NSTTV]

PUTRAJAYA: Face masks will no longer be mandatory outdoors starting May 1, Health Minister Khairy Jamaluddin announced today.

However, face masks must still be worn indoors, including in shopping malls and offices, and on public transportation, including e-hailing rides.

"The Health Ministry (still) encourages the public to put on the face mask outdoors, especially when in crowded spaces; individuals who are symptomatic with fever, cough and flu; high-risk individuals; and when conducting activities with high-risk individuals such as the elderly and children.

"We will still enforce mask mandates indoors," he told a press conference today.

Khairy also said the face mask can be removed when exercising indoors, when a person is by himself/herself, when eating and drinking, when making a speech, or when in a performance.
