CM: Penang government has fulfilled 90pc of pledges made in 2018 [NSTTV]

GEORGE TOWN: Four years after being given another mandate by the people to run the state, the Penang government today claimed that it has achieved 90 per cent of the 68 promises made in 2018.

In his speech to launch the 2018 manifesto achievement held in Komtar here today, Chief Minister Chow Kon Yeow said 54 promises had been fulfilled while 12 promises in the process of implementation.

He said another two promises would not be implemented as it overlapped with the Federal Government's programmes.

"Today, exactly four years after being given another mandate to run the state on May 9, 2018, I feel this is a celebration whereby I represent the state government's machinery to announce that we have fulfil 90 per cent of the promises made.

"Moving forward, I will continue to steer this ship together with all of you. The Pakatan Harapan-led state government remains committed in elevating the state to greater heights in the global stage.

"This is proven in the past two years when we faced the Covid-19 pandemic, we are able to strive for excellence not only in the aspect of economy but also education development, sports and social aspects," he said.

Pakatan Harapan has been leading Penang since 2008 until today.

Chow said a booklet on the state's manifesto achievement would be distributed to the people.

The 68 promises was based on 11 main thrusts.

Chow said all the promises made under five main thrusts had been fulfilled.

He said they were the Competency, Accountability and Transparency (CAT) Administration, Housing For All, Entrepreneurship, Education and Skills Development and Harmonious Society.

"Under the CAT Administration, we have managed to limit the chief minister's post (appointment per office bearer) to two terms.

"We have also appointed the state opposition leader as the Public Accounts Committee chairman.

"And finally, the state's financial performance had received certification from the Auditor-General without any reprimands for three consecutive years between 2018 and 2020.

Chow also said that the five promises under the Entrepreneurship thrusts had also been fully achieved.

"The Covid-19 pandemic did not adversely affect the total investments approved in Penang under the manufacturing sector for 2021, when Penang recorded the highest investment in the country at RM76.2 billion which generated 51,000 job opportunities," he said.

Chow said the other promises under the remaining six thrusts were still in various progress of implementation.

"We believe that all our achievements will increase the people's confidence in our administration.

"As for the remaining 10 per cent of promises, we will strive to achieve them before the 15th General Election. I believe we can do it as proven when we faced the Covid-19 pandemic in the past," he said.

He also reminded members of his administration not to be complacent in championing the CAT administration.
