KJ line service disruption due to brake caliper hydraulic leakage on Train 39.

PETALING JAYA: A brake caliper hydraulic leakage on Train 39 caused the Kelana Jaya Line service disruption this morning.

Kelana Jaya Line rail engineering head Leman Zakaria said the leakage had caused the brake disc mechanism to become unable to be released and required manual release by the maintenance team.

Sharing the chronology of the service disruption, Leman said Train 39 was reported to be unable to move and was stalled at the Taman Jaya station headed towards Putra Heights at 8.16am.

He said passengers were told to disembark at the Taman Jaya platform and announcements of service disruption were broadcast on the platform and on board trains.

"At 8.26am, an alternate service was activated using a single track between Taman Bahagia station and Taman Jaya station.

"At 8.28am, the roving maintenance team arrived at the site for recovery works, before an additional support maintenance team from the depot arrived at the site at 9.58am.

"At 12.51pm, Train 39 was successfully coupled with Train 95 and moved towards the depot.

"Train 39 was cleared from the main line and arrived at the depot at 1.17pm before normal service was resumed nine minutes later," he told a press conference today.

Present was Rapid Rail Sdn Bhd chief executive officer Amir Hamdan.

Leman said according to the maintenance record, Train 39 had undergone a series of scheduled inspections.

"The 15-weekly inspection (preventive maintenance) was last conducted on March 3, while last corrective maintenance was on April 28, with the train found safe for operation," he said.

Meanwhile, Amir said Rapid Rail deeply regrets the incident and apologises for any inconvenience caused, with 12,000 passengers being affected.

He said passengers affected by the disruption will be offered a one-way travel coupon, which can be redeemed within five days, starting today, at any LRT Rapid KL counter.
