Slight drop in Covid-19 cases

KUALA LUMPUR: Malaysia recorded 1,697 new Covid-19 cases on Monday, pushing the national toll to 4,479,809.

The daily figure dropped from the 2,239 infections reported on May 15.

Based on data from CovidNow, all the reported cases were local transmissions.

Covid-19 daily admissions slightly increased to 459 from 421 the previous day.

As of yesterday, 12 per cent of the allocated Covid-19 beds were used while 6.5 per cent of intensive care unit (ICU) beds are occupied.

Overall, combining both Covid-19 and non-Covid patients, 58.5 per cent of normal beds and 55.7 per cent of ICU beds are utilised nationwide.

Yesterday, 1,548 Covid-19 patients recovered from the virus, while the total number of active cases stood at 30,879.

Of the number, 96.2 per cent (29,693 cases) are undergoing home quarantine, 1,123 patients treated at hospitals, 0.2 per cent of the cases warded at ICUs and 23 cases are placed at Covid-19 quarantine and treatment centres.

Five people died of Covid-19, including one brought-in-dead case in the country yesterday, taking the toll to 35,620.

Meanwhile, Health director-general Tan Sri Dr Noor Hisham Abdullah said the national infectivity rate, Rt, was at 1.04 on Monday.

He said the Rt in the Klang Valley - Kuala Lumpur, Selangor and Putrajaya – were all above 1.0 on Monday, at 1.03, 1.04, 1.10 respectively.

Another state with a Rt above 1.0 was Penang that had an infectivity rate at 1.01.

Rt in other states were between 0.79 and 0.95.
