14-year-old boy found drowned

KUALA LUMPUR: A 14-year-old boy was found drowned near the Sungai Kembung fisherman's jetty.

The victim had gone swimming with two other friends near the spot today.

Selangor Fire and Rescue Department director Norazam Khamis said the victim, identified as Syed Farish Hakimi Syed Nubli, was found by the search and rescue (SAR) team at 4pm.

He said the department received an emergency call informing that three boys, aged between 10 and 15, were swept away by strong currents at 1.26pm.

He said a team from the Port Klang fire station and a Water Rescue Team rushed to the scene upon receiving the distress call, arriving at 1.40pm.

"The boys were swimming at Tebing Selat before they were swept away by currents to the Sungai Kembung fisherman's jetty.

"Raihan Nasir, 10, was rescued by a passer-by and Nazrel Faiz Abdullah managed to swim back to the bank. However, the third victim, Syed Farish Hakimi was believed to have drowned.

"A SAR operation was initiated to locate the drowned victim and his body was found at 4pm," he said in a statement today.

Norazam said the victim was pronounced dead by Health Ministry personnel at the scene.

He added that the body had been handed over to police for further action.
