Covid-19 infections increase to 1,887 yesterday

KUALA LUMPUR: Another 1,887 new Covid-19 cases were detected yesterday (June 9) raising the cumulative count to 4,520,852 since the pandemic began in 2020.

The fresh infections marked a climb from two days before, which reported 1,518 and 1,128 cases respectively.

The Health Ministry's Github data repository showed the majority of the cases were in Selangor with 776, followed by Kuala Lumpur with 371 and 143 in Perak.

To date, Selangor reported the highest number of infections in the country with 1,372,500.

The ministry's CovidNow portal showed that of the 1,887 cases, only eight were imported cases.

The number of active cases was up by 485 bringing the count to 22,074.

Up to 21,074 cases or 95.5 per cent are home quarantined; 954 or 4.3 per cent are hospitalised while 21 or 0.1 per cent are placed at the Covid-19 quarantine and low risk treatment centres.

There are 17 cases being ventilated and eight others unventilated at the intensive care units.

The portal also said three deaths were reported, of which two were brought-in-dead, while there were 1,399 recoveries.

There were 459 hospital admissions yesterday where Klang Valley recorded the most with 171. There were 84 in Sabah and 81 in Johor.
