CM: Sabah civil servants should change mindset, embrace innovation

KOTA KINABALU: Sabah is hoping for a change of mindset among its state civil servants to complement the government's efforts in creating an investor friendly environment.

Chief Minister Datuk Seri Hajiji Noor said that both the State Secretary's and the Federal Secretary's Office can actively discuss and make strategic collaborations to make a leap forward for change in the state this year.

"We want to bring more investors to come and to make sure that the investment is simplified, the public service delivery system needs to be improved.

"This will encourage the confidence of the international investor community in the growth prospects of the state, thus improving the state's economic progress," he said in a statement.

Hajiji was quoted during the launch of the Public Service Innovation Awards ceremony at Menara Kinabalu here.

Meanwhile, Hajiji said that he strongly supports the implementation of innovation in the hope that the delivery system in the state civil service can be improved.

"Sabah is no longer in the era of 1972, 1982 or 1992, let us rise together with the spirit of 2022, to be more courageous to change the mindset and actively achieve Sabah Maju Jaya (development plan).

"If we are ignorant, lazy and find it difficult to adapt to this change, then we will drift behind in the digitalisation era today.

"Civil servants also need to be more sensitive and responsive to the needs of the people," he said, adding it would also be useless if their innovation was impractical.
