Daily Covid-19 cases remain above 2,000

KUALA LUMPUR: New daily Covid-19 cases in Malaysia remained above the 2,000 mark, with 2,033 infections being reported yesterday.

This, however, was a slight dip from the 2,320 cases recorded the day before.

To date, 4,534,665 people in the country have been infected with the coronavirus since the pandemic began.

Of the number, 4,474358 cases had recovered and 35,730 fatalities had been recorded.

Yesterday, 1,337 recoveries and five deaths, including three brought-in-dead cases, were recorded.

The number of active cases stood at 24,577 nationwide.

Active cases have been on an upward trend. A total of 22,384 active cases were recorded on June 12, climbing to 22,594 on June 13, and then to 22,951 on June 14 and 23,881 on Wednesday.

A total of 23,573 Covid-19 patients were under home quarantine, 959 receiving treatment at hospitals, 32 warded at Intensive Care Units (ICUs) and 13 isolated at Covid-19 Quarantine and Treatment Centres (PKRCs).

A total of 377 Covid-19 patients were admitted to hospitals yesterday.

The utilisation rate for Covid-19-designated beds stood at 13.3 per cent, Covid-19 ICU beds at 7.3 per cent and PKRC beds at 15 per cent.

A total of 1,261,104 children aged 5 to 11, or 35.5 per cent of those in the age group, had received two doses of the Covid-19 vaccine, and 48.9 per cent of the population have taken at least one dose of the vaccine.

In addition, 68.5 per cent of the adult population had received their booster doses.
