Muhyiddin denies receiving RM1.3 million from Ultra Kirana

KUALA LUMPUR: Tan Sri Muhyiddin Yassin today denied that he had received RM1.3 million from an administrative manager of Ultra Kirana Sdn Bhd (UKSB), as alleged in the ongoing corruption trial of Umno president Datuk Seri Dr Ahmad Zahid Hamidi.

David Tan, a former UKSB administrative manager, had told the Shah Alam High Court that Muhyiddin and veteran politician Datuk Seri Mohd Shafie Apdal had received funds from the company.

UKSB was the firm that handled the foreign visa system, or VLN, for Chinese tourists. They were appointed by the government in 2016.

Muhyddin, who is former prime minister, said he was on leave between June and August 2018 to receive treatment for cancer.

That was the period in which he was alleged to have received the money.

"I was made aware of a statement given by a UKSB administrative manager in Datuk Seri Dr Ahmad Zahid Hamidi's corruption case.

"The statement gave the implication that I had received RM1.3 million from the company between June and August 2018. That is a false statement and I strongly condemn it," he said.

The Pagoh member of parliament also said that during his absence, his role as the Home Minister had been taken over by then-prime minister Tun Dr Mahathir Mohamad.

"During the date that the witness had accused me of receiving the cash, I was receiving treatment at a hospital abroad.

"It would be impossible for me to receive the cash from anyone under that condition. The accusation is groundless.

"As such, I wish to state that I never received money, be it directly or indirectly, from David Tan, the witness from UKSB, his director or shareholder," he said.

Muhyddin added that he has neither been questioned nor investigated by the relevant authorities over the claims.

"I hope that the prosecutors will explain the matter to clear the accusation made against me.

"I'm also ready to be investigated by the Malaysian Anti-Corruption Commission (MACC) over the allegation," he said.
