Sabah Health Department to investigate stillbirth in hospital

KOTA KINABALU: The Sabah Health Department will conduct a thorough investigation into the alleged negligence by the Sabah Women and Children Hospital that caused the death of a baby recently.

State health director Datuk Dr Rose Nani Mudin in a statement today confirmed that the incident took place at the hospital in Likas here on June 19.

"A detailed and transparent investigation is being conducted by the department," she said in response to a viral message posted on social media accusing the hospital medical staff of negligence.

The message was posted by the sister of the baby's mother who claimed that she had to endure long hours of pain before an emergency caesarean section was performed, only to find the baby stillborn.

The state Health Department offered its condolences to the entire family.

"The mother is stable and being given further treatment and counselling by the hospital at the moment," said Dr Rose.

The health department views the incident seriously and will gather all the feedback from the investigation to improve services at the hospital, she said.
