BUTTERWORTH: An 11-year-old boy was feared drowned while swimming with several friends near the Bagan Ajam fisherman's jetty at Pantai Bersih here this afternoon.
The Fire and Rescue Department was alerted to the incident about 5.45pm. A search and rescue (SAR) operation was immediately activated to locate Muhammad Mikhaeil Muqmin Abdullah.
A spokesman said when they arrived at the scene, they were told the boy went missing while swimming with several friends.
"We immediately searched the area where the boy was last seen swimming. We were also assisted by fishermen," he said.
However, the spokesman said the SAR was postponed due to strong currents and poor lighting.
"We will resume the SAR tomorrow," he added.
