KUALA LUMPUR: Umno president Datuk Seri Dr Ahmad Zahid Hamidi is leaving it to the party's disciplinary board to decide if there is a need to take action against Datuk Seri Tajuddin Abdul Rahman.
Zahid said the Umno supreme council would also deliberate and decide on the matter in the event the party's disciplinary board received a report or request for a probe or action to be initiated against Tajuddin.
"I respect the party's constitution where there is the Umno disciplinary board.
"The Umno supreme council will discuss the matter if the disciplinary board receives a report or request for any form of investigation or action be taken," Zahid told reporters here today.
He was asked to comment on whether Umno would take action against the controversial Pasir Salak member of parliament's allegations during his tell-all press conference yesterday.
Tajuddin among others had called on Zahid to step down as the party president, describing the latter as a liability to Umno.
Zahid was also asked to comment on Tajuddin's claims that there was a movement led by Umno deputy president Datuk Seri Mohamad Hasan and joined by BN advisory council chairman Datuk Seri Najib Razak, which was set up to remove Zahid as the party president about two years ago.
"I do not have knowledge about the said meeting (as claimed by Tajuddin). Nevertheless, we must respect the constitution of the party.
"If such a request existed (for him to step down), the party's constitution stated that it must be conducted according to the party's regulations to determine if the said individual is capable of staying in office," he said.
Tajuddin claimed the party leaders involved in the movement to oust Zahid had met at his house in Bukit Damansara in May 2020.
The movement, Tajuddin had said, had discussed submitting a memorandum to Zahid to call for his resignation as the party president.
Tajuddin had also claimed that the movement was derailed when Mohamad decided to back down at the very last minute after he was intimidated by one of Zahid's henchmen.
